ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) is a condition that causes hyperactivity, impulsivity, and persistent inattention. This syndrome manifests itself in childhood and may persist into adulthood.
In children, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is one of the most common mental disorders. Up to 5% of children suffer from it, and boys are 3 times more likely than girls.
The symptoms of ADHD vary from patient to patient, and they all have difficulty with activity control, restraint, and attention. When activity is normal, they talk about attention deficit disorder. Both impulsivity and hyperactivity decrease with age.
Children with ADHD often have problems at home and at daycare. If left untreated, ADHD can lead to future social and emotional impairments, increased addiction to drugs, and increased risk of injury.
Symptoms of ADHD
The disease in children proceeds differently, but each has inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity.
inattention
It is characterized by the inability or difficulty to concentrate on one subject. Children get bored when they have to do something for a long time. Consciously focusing on something causes considerable difficulty. At the same time, children are restless, find it difficult to do any work. Things are postponed until the end, they do not fulfill their duties, they cannot sit still. Often start a lot of things at the same time and do not finish any of them.
Children are diagnosed after a detailed discussion of all symptoms with parents and the children themselves and after observing the behavior of children. A thorough anamnesis is collected, in which it is found out whether relatives have the same problem. The doctor must distinguish ADHD from mental or somatic diseases. There is no specific test to diagnose ADHD.
